GRAND AND ROYAL AND NOBLE OATH OF THE CROSSBOWMEN OF NOTRE-DAME AU SABLON
And
GRAND ROYAL SERMENT OF SAINT GEORGES OF THE CROSSBOWMEN OF BRUSSELS
Series of loans: commemorative plate with the profile of the church, small Italian crossbow and small trophy in the shape of a crossbow.
The Oaths of the Crossbowmen built the church in the 15th century on the site of their old wooden chapel, located outside the city walls. It was at Sablon. Given the massive influx of worshippers following the arrival of the miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary from Antwerp, they had to build a large church.
These were the “Ancien Grand Serment Royal et Noble des Arbalétriers de Notre-Dame au Sablon” (Old Royal and Noble Guild of Crossbowmen of Our Lady at the Sablon) and the “Grand Serment Royal et de Saint-Georges des Arbalétriers de Bruxelles” (Grand Royal and Saint George’s Guild of Crossbowmen of Brussels), created in the 14th century. Crossbows were formidable weapons whose quarrels pierced the coat of arms of knights more easily than ordinary arrows shot from a bow.
Every year on the occasion of the Feast of the Ascension, the two oaths organize a High Mass in the presence of the representative of the King and the authorities of the City.

They also both have beautiful cellars, true museums, where they practice crossbow shooting.
