Michel Angeliwenoni
On the large northern column of the transept hangs the monumental tombstone of Michel Angeliwenoni, made of black marble and with red marble columns. The monument is crowned by his patron saint in white marble, who slays the dragon with a lance. Angeliwenoni was the court surgeon of the Archdukes Albert and Isabella. He attended the funeral of his patient, the archduke, in 1621. In a description of the ceremony, written by Butkens, he is referred to as Michelangelo Invenonis!
He died in 1625 and his cenotaph bears the following inscription:
“Michel Angeliwenoni Chamber Surgeon to Their Serene Highnesses Albert and IsabellaArchdukes of Austria, Dukes of Brabant, etc.”
Died on October 16, 1625.
