Restoration and conservation of murals by Georges de Geetere under the First World War glass roof in the south transept.

To honor the memory of the victims and heroes of the First World War, it was decided to install a large stained-glass window depicting King Albert and Queen Elizabeth in front of the martyred towns of Ypres and Nieuwpoort. The choice fell on the church of Our Lady of Victories
Comme on manquait de place dans les vitraux pour mentionner toutes les familles on continua à peindre des blasons sous la verrière. It was the work of the painter Georges De Geetere, famous for his works at the Boch faience factory and his decorative wall panels, that led him to paint frescoes These were partly peeling off or raised and required fixing. The Fund of the Friends of the Church has fully funded this work. Some of the concerned families have supported the initiative. We sincerely thank them.
The restoration was masterfully carried out by Charlotte Ieven and her colleagues at Art Conservation. Their detailed report describes the techniques used for both the marouflage paintings and the frescoes.
