CHARTER FOR THE INSTALLATION OF THE BELGIAN LIEUTENANCY OF THE ORDER OF THE HOLY SEPULCHRE OF JERUSALEM IN THE CHURCH OF NOTRE-DAME DES VICTOIRES IN 1930

The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem was founded by Pope Pius IX in 1847 to support the Latin Patriarchate recently established in Jerusalem. The latter lacked the resources to build churches and schools. The knights and ladies of the Order are particularly dedicated to helping Christians in the Holy Land, where Jesus of Nazareth lived. It now includes Palestine, Israel and Jordan.
Knights and Ladies wear a white cloak and ladies a black cape a during the Order’s ceremonies. There are about 300 members in Belgium and some 30,000 worldwide.
