Funerary monument of the Marquis of Voghera

This ‘prayer’ type of monument is in honour of Auguste del Pozzo, Marquis of
Voghera (1706-1781). It is the work of the architect and archaeologist
Jean-Frédéric Van der Rit (1823-1882). He chose Jean-Joseph Jacquet (1822-1898) as sculptor. Voghera,
born in Turin, was advisor to the Emperor of Austria, the general of cavalry then
general commander of the troops in the Austrian Netherlands during the reign of
Empress Maria Theresa. He fought the Prussian King Frederick II with such ardour
that it was recorded in the latter’s biography.
