The altar of Saint Wivine

The altar inaugurated in 1880 is designed by architect Auguste Schoy. The hunt containing the relic is also in neo-Gothic style, the work of the Wilmotte brothers,
goldsmiths from Liège. This reliquary is represented in the large stained glass window of the brotherhood in the choir of the church. The bas-reliefs of the altar were sculpted by Edouard Marchant. Above the altar is a statue of Saint Wivine with her abbess crozier and the candle, miraculously relighted. Originating from the d’Oisy family, Wivine withdrew from the world to a hermitage in Groot-Bijgaarden, near Brussels, in the 12th century. She was soon joined by many other devout women. Wivine is invoked when treating throat and eye diseases as well as fever. During the French Revolution, the abbey was destroyed but its relics were saved by being entrusted to the Notre-Dame au Sablon church.
